Square Enix will end support for Marvel's Avengers on September 30th
Square Enix just announced that it will end support for Marvel's Avengers on September 30th, 2023. Also, according to the publisher, the game will receive its final content update, update 2.8, on March 31st.
Square Enix has clarified that even after official support ends on September 30th, both single and multiplayer gameplay will continue to be available.
On March 31, Square Enix will remove all GaaS and MTX features from the game. In other words, it will make the entire marketplace, challenge map, and cosmetic content of the game available to all players for free. Every single Outfit, Takedown, Emote and Nametag from the Marketplace, Challenge Cards and Shipments will be free to all players as of this date if you own a copy of the game.
Finally, Square Enix will delist Marvel's Avengers on September 30th.
This is another GaaS game that fell short of its original goal. EIDOS Montreal, Crystal Dynamics and all the other studios that worked on it really struggled to bring new content to it. Also, the game has never been SO impressive (in terms of gameplay and combat).
In any case, it will now be interesting to see if all the major publishers continue to invest in GaaS games. EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft and Square Enix saw numerous GaaS games fail. The only company that made a profit was Activision/Blizzard (Like it or not, Diablo Immortal made a lot of money)!
