This Iconic Harry Potter Location Won't Feature in Hogwarts Legacy

Between Hogsmeade and the Great Hall, Hogwarts Legacy is packed with iconic Harry Potter locations, but fans won't be able to visit this legendary area.


Hogwarts Legacy looks to be the biggest Harry Potter game to date, and that's just the game map. There will be dozens of quests to uncover, but many players will be excited to explore their favorite Harry Potter locations. We already know that Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley will be in the game, but what about the depths of Hogwarts itself? Well, we won't salute the basilisk yet.


The Harry Potter franchise is full of places we'd love to explore. Whether it's Gringotts Bank or the headquarters of the Ministry of Magic, it would be great to see them realized in the game. But what's behind Hogwarts for gamers? We're closer than ever to the Hogwarts Legacy release date, and while there are still a few mysteries to unravel, recent leaks seem to confirm that the Chamber of Secrets won't be accessible in-game.


The official Hogwarts Legacy art book has been leaked online, and naturally many of the reveals have been noted by Potterheads. Hogwarts Legacy subreddit participant 'BlackChamber007' says that "well, the Chamber of Secrets, unfortunately, didn't make it."


The Chamber of Secrets was the battleground of Harry Potter's position against Tom Riddle and his mortal basilisk. Filled with weaving tunnels and piles of bones, we wouldn't want to be stuck there for too long.





According to the leaked artbook, the Hogwarts Legacy design team clarifies that "there were some challenges with this [the Chamber of Secrets] and it was decided not to include it." While his absence may stem from a technical aspect, there's a solid reason that appeals to wider Harry Potter lore: "We certainly wouldn't want the player to think he could a Basilisk that has yet to be there in 1992."


Harry Potter himself would of course go on to defeat the fearsome enemy, using Godric Gryffindor's sword to deliver the killing blow. The entrance to the Chamber of Secrets in lore is in the second-floor girls' bathroom, where Harry, Ron, and Hermione spend considerable time conjuring up potions in their second adventure. There could still be Easter eggs for players to find if the area is present in the game.

Rowling is not "directly involved" in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, she is working with "her team" and Portkey Games, a Warner Bros. label. dedicated to launching new experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling's original stories. It's currently unclear if she'll earn royalties from the sale of the game, but it's likely to be based on her original work.
